Arabba (BL)
Lying
on the extremes of the province of Belluno, on the boundary
with Alto Adige, Arabba (1601 mt), thanks to the vast skiing
capacity it is one of the most famous winter attractions
in the Dolomiti. It is surrounded by thick and lush woods
and it is dominated by the Sella mountain range. This locality
is the entrance to Sella Ronda, which is a spectacular ski-ring
that goes through 4 passes: Campolongo, Sella, Gardena and
Pordoi. The skiing territory of Arabba is equipped with
over 50 kilometres of skiing track, of which 80% have a
snow programme. There are about 30 ski lifts. Arabba is
connected with the nearby ice glacier of Marmolada by means
of the skiing plant of Padon and Malga Ciapela. There is
a very famous event that takes place in the winter called
"Skimaraton", it is an international skiing competition
that is held at night. In the summer time there are a number
of walking itineraries to choose from that wind through
the nearby mountains; just to mention one of the most spectacular,
there are old military post paths of the first world war.
Arabba is also a lively centre for mountain bike tourists
and athletics.
