Park of the Dolomiti Friulane

The territory of this park stretches
out over an area of 36.950 hectors, between the provinces
of Pordenone and Udine. It is circled by the rivers Piave
and Tagliamento. The landscape is dominated by the Dolomiti
with narrow and long valleys; but one can also find grass
fields in the higher altitudes (Campoross) and pasturing
at Malga Senons. The harsh and severe surrounding has rendered
a minimum anthropic impact and has guaranteed the preservation
of an intact nature; on the inner part there are not any
good roads or human dwellings thus not encouraging mass
tourism but allowed space for mountaineers, walkers and
lovers of nature. Interest in this area has only recently
grown due to the discovery of dinosaur's footprints. The
flora is lush and various; not only is there the typical
vegetation of the temperate level but there are also some
typical organisms of the area which have been isolated here
in remote times, such as the Lady's slipper and Daphne Bagayana,
discovered in 1989. The fauna is also very abundant with
a great variety; chamois, roe deer, marmot, capercaille,
deer and rock goats. Worthwhile mentioning are the kinds
of birds such as the eagle: of which we can find a couple
breeding in about every valley, sign of the unspoilt nature
in the area.
