Lying
at the south east end of Garda Lake, where the Mincio river flows down, Peschiera
is a lively and historical town. Since Roman times it was a very important military
station. In the XVI° century the Venetians built a city wall: impressive fortress
that can still be admired today together with the charming Palazzo del Comando
del Presidio, of the same era. This historical building is now a museum containing
relics from the Italian Risorgimento. Being a very important tourist resort and
having a spacious harbour, Peschiera has numerous hotel facilities and camping
sites set in the lush vegetation along the banks of the lake. On the outskirts
of the city it is possible to visit the Santuario della Madonna del Frassino dating
XVI° century, and today it is a national monument that holds the splendid frescoes
and paintings of the XVI° and XVII° century. | choose
